Contingency driving for badged FedEx Ground drivers: pay, perks and how to get booked
A driver's guide to FedEx Ground contingency and DCA work: who qualifies, typical weekly pay, hotel and per diem, and how assignments are matched.
Who qualifies
An active FedEx Ground badge, current STA/TSA clearance, and usually one year of driving with a contractor. Your current contractor must be willing to confirm your status where the driver permits.
What it pays
Weekly pay on recent requests runs $1,300 to $1,600 with hotel paid and $40 to $60 per diem, more for linehaul-capable drivers. Pay and perks are set by the booking contractor and shown on the request before you accept.
How matching works
You apply once with your home base, regions you will travel to, pay you want and availability. When a contractor posts a request that fits, we recommend you; the contractor accepts and your contact details are released to them.
What you control
Which details contractors see (stops per hour, route types, vehicles driven, Express or pickup experience) and whether your current contractor can be contacted for verification. We never charge drivers.
Can I do contingency work and keep my current job?
Many drivers take two-week assignments during their contractor's slow periods with permission. Talk to your contractor first; some have policies about outside work.
